2008 Motorsport News Caterham Roadsport Challenge

Healthy grids and fantastically close racing typify the Roadsport Challenge, Caterham’s championship for intermediate drivers. The cars are all powered by 1.6-litre K-series units and have an impressive power to weight ratio and phenomenal handling thanks to their Avon CR500 treaded race rubber. Yet the cars are road legal and competitors can, and often do, drive them home from the circuit.

There are two separate grids, for Roadsport Bs and their drivers, fresh from the Caterham Academy motorsport starter series, and for Roadsports, which are allowed a few performance-enhancing modifications. Professional team support is not allowed in the B category, but there is factory assistance in the paddock and a great spirit of camaraderie among the drivers and their assistants.

This year’s Roadsport calendar features many highlights, not least the first-ever overseas round, at Croix in northern France, and the October date at Brands Hatch, where the championship will conclude alongside several other of Caterham’s many race series.
