Caterham Superlight Challenge 2008

The Autosport Caterham Superlight Challenge is our premier British championship, and features a fresh look in 2006 thanks to the introduction of the new Cosworth-powered Superlight model.

The Superlight takes over from the hugely successful R400, which has provided breathtakingly close racing for many seasons, enthralling many thousands of circuit-goers and millions worldwide via satellite TV.

The R400 continues alongside the new Superlight for a valedictory season, but it is the newer car that is expected to provide the action at the front of the field. It’s powered by a Cosworth-developed 2-litre Ford Duratec engine boasting 220 bhp and is expected not only to lower the R400’s already phenomenal lap times but also to offer better durability and longevity. Avon CR500 treaded race rubber provides the grip for both classes.

The championship in 2006 features double-header events at five headlining British F3/British GT meetings, with a season-closing carnival of Caterham F1 Racing at Brands Hatch in October. There are 12 scoring rounds in all.

The championship enjoys extensive Sky Sports TV coverage, a paddock race centre and professional team and parts support.
